The conflict among the major browser powers has existed since the emergence of the Internet in the 1990's, when Al Gore invented it (or at least helped fund it), leaving the web developers and designers of the world in the crossfire.
It has pretty much been downhill since the days of Mosaic. It was a lot easier when there was really only one browser to deal with. Netscape Navigator helped pave the way and AOL dominated the public scene with it's proprietary software. And as we know, Internet Explorer quickly climbed the ranks and has remained king of browsers on Windows, or at least, once it became usable at version 3.
Thankfully we have had Mozilla-Firefox to give us an open-source option. Then, just recently, behold Google Chrome! Oh, and what about the Mac users? Of course Safari cannot go unmentioned. And who's this Opera that keeps having an impact on browser technology? What about text-only browsers like Lynx? Then there's Camino, Dillo, Shiira, SeaMonkey... we haven't even considered mobile browsers or the iPad... ahhhhhhh!!!!
...and so it comes as no surprise that many young web developers never return home, they are brutally crushed, then pick different careers.
